Body image is what you think about your body and how you feel about the way you look. Some people really struggle with having a positive body image. It’s normal to worry about your looks, especially as your body changes and grows. It becomes a problem when you think and worry about it constantly.
There’s a lot of pressure on guys and girls to look a certain way and fit in. Trying to fit the image you see in movies and on TV can make you dislike your body really easily. But just take one look around and see that everyone’s different. You can start to worry about being too fat or thin, too tall or short, too small or muscular. Everyone is different. People come in lots of shapes and sizes and have all different personalities. Don’t let people get you down about how you look.
Having negative views of yourself can affect your actions. You might avoid social situations, keep your thoughts to yourself, dress or act like others instead of how you want to, and avoid doing things that might show parts of your body that you don’t like. It can take time to get used to the changes that puberty causes in your body. It’s normal to feel awkward!

Feeling good and confident comes and goes with time. This is how it is for everybody! Self-esteem builds on itself. If you are feeling like your self-esteem is gone, think about something you know you can do well and do it! Shifting your mindset from focusing on something you can’t do to something you can do will make you feel better. The more you focus on the things you do well, the more you will be able to use your self-esteem to overcome tough times and keep feeling good.
It can be hard to have your own style and taste but also fit in. Others might make fun of you if you don’t dress, act, or look like them. Don’t get caught up in all that. It’s impossible to please everybody. Try to feel comfortable in your own skin and your own style.
